R1 → Titan Wars → Titanfall
Original Reddit thread with direct video links

This is a collection of five short Titanfall gameplay clips from the Final Hours of Titanfall [Steam | Origin | iOS] that depict the game in various stages of development. I have not mirrored the videos from their original locations in order to avoid possible DMCA takedown, so I apologize for any playback issues. Following is a brief description of each clip in sequential order:

R1_TEST - Oct. 2010

Respawn was founded in April 2010 and started work on their first game, known only as R1. The first demo of the game was built on Insomniac's Luna engine. It was dubbed the mushroom man demo by the team and did not inspire much confidence in the game's future.

XO_ACTION_TEST - Jan. 2011

Titan combat prototype built on the Luna engine. Difficulties with using Insomniac's engine caused the team to abandon Luna for Valve's Source engine in May 2011. The transition was not smooth as the game's code and resources had to be remade from scratch.

SKYLINE PROTOTYPE - Dec. 2011

Playable demo of Respawn's early iteration of a class based multiplayer experience. The Source engine is used for it's superior level design tools and because game mechanics like wallrunning were easier to implement.

WORKER_BASE_TEST - May 2012

12 minute playable sequence of a single player mission. This featured many aspects of the game that made it into the final product such as the smart pistol and the level, which became Airbase. Deadline pressures caused Jason West to push for focus on multiplayer which ultimately contributed to cutting the single player campaign out of the game. (The frame skips near the beginning of this clip are encoded and are most likely caused by game performance hiccups)

GPMM DEMO - Jan. 2013

This 8 minute segment was shown during EA's annual global marketing meeting, GPMM. The game, now known as Titan Wars, demonstrated enough innovation and polish to assure EA that their investment in the company would pay off.
